Il ferro-manganese ad alto carbonio è un legame costituito da manganese e ferro. Viene prodotto sia con il metodo del forno a cupola che con quello dell'forno elettrico. Il ferro-manganese ad alto carbonio prodotto in forno elettrico viene utilizzato principalmente come deossidante, disolfurante e additivo legante nella produzione dello steel. Inoltre, grazie al progresso della tecnologia di produzione del ferro-manganese a medio e basso carbonio, il ferro-manganese ad alto carbonio può essere utilizzato anche nella produzione di ferro-manganese a medio e basso carbonio. Il ferro-manganese è classificato in tre categorie in base al suo contenuto di carbonio: categoria a basso carbonio: il carbonio non è superiore al 0,7%; categoria a medio carbonio: il carbonio è compreso tra il 0,7% e il 2,0%; categoria ad alto carbonio: il carbonio è compreso tra il 2,0% e l'8,0%.
